What is ZLC?

The Zimbabwe Labour Centre, “ZLC” is a working people-based not-for-profit registered Trust and a Legal Aid Clinic under the Law Society of Zimbabwe.  Zimbabwe Labour Centre Working People’s college is registered with the Ministry of Higher & Tertiary Education, Science and Technology in terms of the Manpower Planning and Development Act Chapter 28:02 and Statutory Instruments 333 of 1996 and No 26 of 2001.

The ZLC was initiated in 1996 led by the late Briggs Lovemore Zano, a socialist revolutionary, AIDS/HIV and social justice activist and educator.  It is registered as a Trust and draws its membership from socialist socio-economic rights activists, trade unionists, academics, students, anti-neoliberal activists, gender equality activists and social movements. 

From the various activities it has been involved in, the ZLC has built significant capacity to deal with labour justice,  socio-economic justice and research.    Its Assembly of Trustees includes four lawyers, two trade union general secretaries and three women leaders who have played leading roles in social movements, as well as experienced academics and activists.
